Start an inventory run

Now that you have discovered your managed environment, you can actually start managing it. The next step to a simplified data management on the platform is to create a normalized and enriched data inventory. At this point, it is time to start your first inventory run. As described in the chapters Start a discovery run in Active Directory and Start a discovery run via Ping Sweeper, you can either trigger any runs manually or via an automated device schedule. However, for the first inventory run, it will be a one-time run.

1.Navigate to the Devices view in the Asset Management workspace. Then click on Inventory to open the Device inventory wizard.

2.Under Selection Type, select your preferred inventory method. For this device inventory, it will be Devices. Then click on Next to proceed.

4.Determine a runner and credentials for this inventory run. Also specify custom settings for this run if required. In this example, custom settings do not need any further configuration.

5.Define an Execution mode. In this example, it will be Execute once. Naturally, you can also schedule automated runs as presented in chapter Schedule your discovery and inventory jobs.

6.Verify the summary of your configurations. If they are correct, click on Start inventory. Otherwise, you can always go back to previous steps.

7.Click on Finish to finalize the process. Alternatively, you can open the Action Center to view details on your inventory run first. Like all other jobs, your device inventory will now be listed in the Job list.

Tip:
Instead of clicking on the Inventory button first, you can also preselect devices and then activating the button. In this case, the wizard skips steps 2 and 3 and directly opens the General dialog.
