Rule sets are the building blocks of dynamic device assignment for organization units (OUs). Each rule set groups one or more rules that share a common purpose. Rule sets are evaluated according to their assigned priority, and within each rule set, the individual rules are evaluated in their own priority order. A device is dynamically assigned to the OU when it satisfies all conditions of a matching rule.
Assignment targets
The assignment target settings described in this topic apply only to organization unit dynamic device assignments. For resource group dynamic device assignments, rules automatically assign devices to the resource group in which the rule was created — no target selection is required.
For organization unit dynamic device assignments, two levels of assignment targets are available:
•Default target organization unit (optional, per rule set) — When a default target organization unit is configured for a rule set, any device that has not been assigned to any organization unit by the time this rule set is evaluated will be assigned to the selected default target organization unit.
•Target organization unit (required, per rule) — Each rule requires a target organization unit to be selected. When a device satisfies all conditions of the rule, it is assigned to the selected target organization unit.
Accessing the Rule Sets tab
1.Navigate to Configuration in the sidebar menu.
2.Select Organization units from the left-hand menu.
3.Click the Rule Sets tab.
Creating a rule set
1.On the Rule Sets tab, click the Add rule set button.
2.Enter a Name and, optionally, a Description for the rule set.
3.Set the Priority value. A lower number gives this rule set higher precedence in the evaluation order relative to other rule sets.
4.(Optional) Select a Default target organization unit. When a default target organization unit is set for a rule set, any device that has not been assigned to any organization unit by the time this rule set is evaluated will be automatically assigned to the selected default target organization unit.
5.Click Save to add the rule set.
Creating rules within a rule set
Each rule set must contain at least one rule to participate in device assignment evaluation. Rules define the exact device properties that must be satisfied for a match.
1.Select the rule set you want to configure by clicking its name on the Rule Sets tab.
2.Click the Add rule button.
3.Enter a Name and, optionally, a Description for the rule.
4.Set the Priority value. Rules within a rule set are evaluated in ascending priority order.
5.Define one or more Conditions. All conditions in a rule must be met for the device to match.
6.Select the Target organization unit (required). When a device satisfies all conditions of this rule, it will be assigned to the selected target organization unit.
7.Click Save to create the rule.
Available rule conditions
The following condition types can be used when defining a rule:
•Network / CIDR range — matches devices whose IP address falls within the specified network range.
•Hostname pattern — matches devices whose hostname satisfies the specified pattern.
•Operating system — matches devices running the specified operating system type.
•Installed package — matches devices on which the specified software package is installed.
•Hardware property — matches devices that have specific hardware characteristics, such as a particular CPU, GPU, or device model.
•Scope — matches devices that fall within the specified scope.

Editing and deleting rule sets and rules
•To edit a rule set: Go to the Rule Sets tab in Organization units, click on the rule set name, and then click Edit.
•To edit a rule: Go to the Rules tab on the rule set details page, click on the specific rule, and then click Edit.
•To delete a rule set: Go to the Rule Sets tab in Organization units, select the rule sets to delete, and click the Remove rule set button.
•To delete a rule: Go to the Rules tab on the rule set details page, select the rules to delete, and click the Remove Rule button.
