Dynamic device assignment for organization units

In addition to manually assigning devices to organization units (OUs), Raynet One supports Dynamic device assignment. This feature lets you define rule-based criteria that the system evaluates automatically to determine which devices belong to a given organization unit, removing the need for continuous manual maintenance.

Dynamic device assignment is configured from Configuration in the sidebar menu, by selecting Organization units and then clicking the Rule Sets tab.

Key concepts

Rule sets are the primary containers for dynamic assignment logic. Each rule set contains one or more rules that specify device matching criteria. Rule sets are evaluated in the order defined by their priority value — a lower numeric priority value means the rule set is evaluated first.

Rules define individual device matching conditions within a rule set. Each rule also carries a priority that governs the order in which conditions are evaluated. A device matches a rule when all conditions defined in that rule are satisfied. Supported conditions include network or CIDR range, hostname patterns, operating system type, installed packages, hardware properties (such as CPU, GPU, or model), and scope.

Blacklisted devices are devices explicitly excluded from dynamic assignment for an organization unit, even if they would otherwise match an active rule. The Blacklisted devices tab on the OU detail page provides a hierarchical view of excluded devices and allows you to manage these exceptions.

Note:
Each device can be assigned to only one organization unit at a time. Dynamic device assignment rules respect this constraint: once a device has been assigned to an organization unit, it will not be reassigned by a lower-priority rule set.

Note:
Dynamic device assignment and manual device assignment coexist for any organization unit. Devices added manually via the Assigned devices tab are not affected by dynamic device assignment rules.
