Version

A version is a unique name of an application release that logically links minor releases of the software. Publishers (manufacturers) use different notations, mostly numeric like "2016", "2019", "11", and sometimes alphanumeric like "IV" or "XI" to define the released version.

Another common term for a product version is the "major version" of the product.

Software management needs to distinguish between the commonly known public version and the technical (internal) version number.

Technical version numbers help to distinguish every single release, update, and build version of a product which normally change if installing updates or patches.
