Fingerprint

A fingerprint is a single software signature that identifies a software installed on the machine. It should contain at least product name, version, and (if possible) manufacturer.

Examples for types of fingerprints:

Add/Remove Programs from Windows Registry (32- / 64Bit)

Windows Installer (MSI) information

System-related information (WINAPI)

SWIDTag file in formation (industry norm, in use by only a few publishers)

File header information (executables)

Fingerprints are classified by type, allowing fingerprints to be qualified and ranked.
