There are two different approaches on how to assign a fingerprint.
The following table shows a comparison between the two approaches:
Structure First |
Evidence First |
|---|---|
In this scenario, the first step is to set up a structure of publishers, products, and versions. |
In this scenario, the fingerprints is always assigned first. |
Try to have the most complete picture of the catalog without adding evidence. |
If a matching product/publisher/version is available use it. Otherwise, use the wizard to create a new one. |
Once this is initially ready, go to the fingerprints and assign them to already existing versions. |
Later revisit the newly created structures and extend them by some non-required data (links, classifications, meta-data, etc.) |
Both scenarios have their pros and cons and both are supported by Raynet One Technology Catalog.
