Two Different Approaches to Assign a Fingerprint

There are two different approaches on how to assign a fingerprint.

Structure First

Evidence First

The following table shows a comparison between the two approaches:

Structure First

Evidence First

In this scenario, the first step is to set up a structure of publishers, products, and versions.

In this scenario, the fingerprints is always assigned first.

Try to have the most complete picture of the catalog without adding evidence.

If a matching product/publisher/version is available use it. Otherwise, use the wizard to create a new one.

Once this is initially ready, go to the fingerprints and assign them to already existing versions.

Later revisit the newly created structures and extend them by some non-required data (links, classifications, meta-data, etc.)

Both scenarios have their pros and cons and both are supported by Raynet One Technology Catalog.
