During inventory processing, the Raynet One backend decodes and classifies the findings collected from scanned devices. In certain edge cases, the backend logs diagnostic messages to indicate that a result could not be fully resolved. These messages are classified at the appropriate severity level to correctly reflect the nature of the situation.
Warning-Level Messages During Inventory Processing
The following messages are expected at warning level in the backend server log during inventory result processing. They indicate that a specific inventory finding could not be fully decoded due to an unrecognized schema or category value, but do not represent a failure of the inventory scan itself:
•The identification schema for subject is not set. — The inventory result for a particular subject did not include an issue schema identifier. The finding is still recorded, but schema-specific resolution is skipped.
•The value [schema] of enum IssueSchema is not handled. — The issue schema value in an inventory result is not recognized by the current version of the decoder. The finding is processed with a fallback path.
•The value [category] of enum IssueCategory is not handled. — The issue category value in an inventory result is not recognized by the current version of the decoder. The finding is processed with a fallback path.
These messages are most commonly observed when performing inventory scans of devices that use credential configurations involving mixed privilege levels, such as Kubernetes devices scanned with Unix credentials with or without privileged elevation. If you observe these messages, no corrective action is required unless inventory results for the affected devices are incomplete or missing.
Distinguishing Warnings from Errors
Server log messages classified as warnings indicate that the system encountered an edge case during processing but was able to continue. Messages classified as errors indicate that a process step failed and requires investigation. When reviewing server logs for inventory issues, focus on error-level messages as the primary indicator of problems requiring action.
