Scopes represent deduplication boundaries within your IT landscape on the Raynet One platform. A scope defines a logical grouping of resources where asset deduplication occurs. When runners discover resources during platform job execution, their findings are registered to their assigned scope. By targeting scopes for platform jobs, you can control which runners participate in discovery and inventory operations and how assets are deduplicated across your environment.
By default, your environment includes the Default Scope. This could represent your entire IT landscape if there is only one scope on the platform. However, you may want to create additional scopes to:
•Separate different physical locations or data centers
•Isolate development, testing, and production environments
•Manage distinct organizational units or business segments
•Control deduplication behavior across network boundaries
In this chapter, we learn how to add a new scope to the platform.
1.Navigate to the Configuration workspace in the sidebar menu. Then, click on Scopes to open the view.
The Scopes list view displays all available scopes in your environment.
2.Click on Add new scope to open the Add scope input form dialog.
3.In the Add scope dialog, provide the following information:
•Name: Enter a descriptive name for the scope (e.g., Production Environment, Berlin Office, Development Scope)
•Description: Provide additional details about the scope's purpose, location, or organizational context
4.Click Save to create the new scope.
5.You are returned to the list of all available scopes. Verify that your new scope appears in the list.
After creating a new scope, you typically need to:
•Assign runners to the scope: Configure which runners should operate within this scope through the Runners configuration.
•Plan your discovery and inventory jobs: Target the new scope when creating platform jobs to control which assets are discovered and how they are deduplicated.
