The file system of devices is a giant resource of data. For many people using computers, it is the most natural place to put their documents at. Using file scan specifications, you can command the platform to search specific file system locations of any of your devices. Raynet One supports a rich way to describe your query needs, allowing you to peek into the deepest depths of just about any file system.
We differentiate between Unix and Windows types of file scan specifications. Both have their own notation and set of features. Different tools and methods are used for each.
JSON notation is used for the file scan specifications.
The Instrument settings form dialog of the Unix Zero Touch Inventory plugin sole instrument, the Zero Touch Unix Device Scan. The text highlighted in blue is the file scan specification to be used for all Unix devices to inventory. The same input box can be found in the instrument settings of the Zero Touch Windows Device Scan instrument. The input box expects a valid JSON definition (rejection is performed if found invalid).
